The Westmorland Way

The scenic Westmorland Way is a 95 mile walk through the ancient county of Westmorland which was abolished as an administrative entity in the local government re-organisation of 1974. Although Westmorland was abolished as a county in 1974, geographically of course it lives on and this walk is a celebration of the walking delights of the county and its history.

A relatively low-level route across the historic county of Westmorland and the Lake District National Park, it follows footpaths, tracks and country lanes along river valleys and across farmland and the open fells via Shap, Pooley Bridge, Patterdale, Grasmere, Troutbeck and Kendal to reach Morecambe Bay.
